42-year-old gymnast and coach Svetlana Khorkina spoke about her children. The athlete is raising two sons, whom she had with different men. The eldest, Svyatoslav, is in 10th grade, and the youngest, Ivan, will soon be two.
In an interview with Vyacheslav Manucharov on the program “Empathy of Manuchi,” Khorkina shared that she devotes most of her time to her family.
“Family comes first. I have a little one, who’s one year and ten months old, and, of course, he takes up all the space in my head. My second is sixteen. So, my first is sixteen, and my second is one year and ten.”
“He’s marriageable.”
Svetlana keeps her children out of the public eye, even posting only photos of them from behind on social media. Her youngest is as fair as she is.
The gymnast speaks fondly of her older son, calling him a “marriageable” boy.
“He’s, let’s say, marriageable. What that means is: it’s tenth grade, we’re thinking about where we’ll enroll, because education is the foundation of a successful future.”
Svetlana admitted that they’ve already decided on a university, and her eldest son has chosen the physics and mathematics track.
“It’s surprising, of course. He’s been telling me his whole school life that he’s a humanities student, and then suddenly it’s physics. I’m trying to [teach him] to set ambitious goals, and of course, it’s MIPT. I’m scared myself, but what can I do?”
An affair with a married man and a secret birth in the US
The athlete gave birth to her eldest son, Svyatoslav, at the prestigious Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where many famous children were born. Khorkina hid the child’s father for several years and even gave birth under a different surname, but this didn’t protect him from intense media scrutiny. Khorkina registered her son as the actor Levan Uchaneishvili, but journalists later discovered that the real father was businessman Kirill Shubsky, the husband of the late Vera Glagoleva.
Actress Vera Glagoleva met her second husband after her divorce from Rodion Nakhapetov in the early 1990s. It was Shubsky who fathered her third daughter, Anastasia, who is now married to Alexander Ovechkin.
Glagoleva’s second husband cheated on her with Khorkina for eight years and only admitted it in 2011, after his wife’s death from stomach cancer. The gymnast later published a book, “Somersaults in Stilettos,” in which she mentioned her affair with Shubsky. Glagoleva’s friends believed her husband’s infidelity had a negative impact on her health.
“I don’t even talk about my personal life.”
The gymnast gave birth to her youngest son, Ivan, in 2019 with government official Oleg Kochnov, to whom she had been married for 10 years.
In the interview, Svetlana reluctantly talked about her husband. She admitted that she doesn’t like to talk about her personal life. “I never talk about my personal life at all. That’s why it’s personal,” the athlete told Manucharov.
“You have to understand and forgive me. My beloved helps me as best he can. If he can’t, I help him. I don’t need anything extraordinary; I’m a very simple person, born into an ordinary family,” Svetlana shared.
