The heroine of this story nearly died from diabetes, underwent a kidney and pancreas transplant, and… continued living her life as before. Only decades later did she realize this was her second chance.
Three decades ago, Julia Olson of Georgia suffered serious health problems. Diabetes caused kidney failure, neuropathy, nearly blindness, and severe heart damage. All these problems were overcome with medication and an organ transplant. At the time, she was 34 years old, and afterward, she returned to her former lifestyle.
But in 2019, Julia realized she needed to take charge of her health again, otherwise, doctors would no longer be able to help.

I started really working on myself in April 2019. I wanted to be fit and healthy, so I started working out and even started working with a trainer!

Regular training did the trick. The excess weight came off, along with her terrible eating habits, and the trainer, looking at her protégé, thought: she should enter a bikini fitness competition. When her mentor pitched the idea to Olson, she was very hesitant – after all, she was already over 60. But her trainer’s confidence inspired her, too. She realized she had to give it a try.

The preparation was intense. She had to train five days a week, and cardio every day. Each day, she was allowed to eat less and less. All to lose excess fat and reveal her muscles.

Julia says bodybuilding has given her not only a body she never dreamed of, but also self-confidence. At 64, the American feels much younger and more attractive than ever. And going on stage in front of the judges is what motivates her, writes the Daily Mail.

You spray tan, then do your hair and makeup, and finish off the look with a beautiful swimsuit. It all looks amazing and makes you feel so confident. This is the peak, what I’ve been working towards, and I get to showcase all the hard work I’ve put in over the past two and a half years.
