She was only nine years old when her mother decided to amputate her legs. Fifteen years later, she astonished the entire planet…

I wish you happiness, Oksana!

This girl is a classic example of never giving up and fighting to the bitter end.

Oksana was born in 1989 in the Ukrainian city of Khmelnytskyi. Doctors were shocked by her condition: part of her legs were missing, her arms were deformed, she had no thumbs, and she had kidney problems. Doctors believed these abnormalities were related to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident.

The parents didn’t know what to do; they weren’t prepared for such an ordeal and placed their child in an orphanage. They disappeared from her life forever.

The little girl lived in an orphanage for seven years. The disabled child was insulted, beaten, and starved, but she persevered. She knew and believed she could overcome everything and find her family. Unfortunately, the Soviet past left a heavy mark on many generations to come. People with disabilities are still perceived as second-class citizens, and back then, her caregivers didn’t even put the girl’s name on the adoption list. They were convinced that no one would want such a child.

Despite society’s cruelty, a miracle happened in the little girl’s life. A woman from the United States saw Oksana’s photograph and felt like she was her daughter. Unfazed by the little girl’s unique features, Guy Masters from Cincinnati, USA, flew to Ukraine as quickly as possible and met her. Oksana was five years old. She spent another two years waiting for her documents to be processed.

For those two years, Oksana lived in fear, terrified that Guy would never return. But her new mother supported her child, never disappeared, sending photos of her new home and writing long letters.

Not only the orphanage staff, but even her friends didn’t understand Gai. Why would she take in a child with such serious illnesses, when there were so many healthy children around? But Gai Masters knew in her heart she was doing the right thing. Her determination saved Oksana’s life.
She was only nine years old when her mother decided to amputate her legs. Fifteen years later, she astonished the entire world…

At almost 8 years old, Oksana traveled to the United States for the first time. At a young age, she could barely walk on tiptoe, but as she aged, her legs weakened and could no longer support her weight. Her new mother did everything she could to save her little girl. She took her for an examination, and American doctors corrected her deformed arms. Her legs were much more complicated. Doctors suggested amputating Oksana’s legs so she could live a full life. At 9, her left leg was amputated, and a year later, her right.

The surgery was successful, and the girl quickly recovered, learning to walk with prosthetics. A short time later, she was running, even rollerblading, and riding a bike! For the first time, Oksana was happy. Then she discovered sports. Rowing—this sport changed her whole life. She became a true legend of Paralympic sports.

In 2012, at the Summer Paralympics in London, Oksana won medals in rowing, and two years later, at the Winter Paralympics in Sochi, she won a medal in cross-country skiing!

Oksana became popular and soon a sports magazine invited her to take part in an erotic photo shoot that amazed the whole world!

This girl truly has nothing to be ashamed of: she has a strong, beautiful body, she’s successful and goal-oriented. Many people could learn a lot from her!

She’s such a great woman!

Despite her difficult past, Oksana loves her home country. She has visited Ukraine several times, where many consider her a true heroine.

In 2015, she returned to her homeland to support wounded soldiers! She also visited the orphanage where she spent her childhood.

When you look at photos of this strong and beautiful girl, it’s hard to imagine the horror she endured. But she overcame it all and achieved stunning success! An example for everyone!
